The Bloody Long Walk To Cure Mito

How hard is it to get your fitness back? For me it was harder than I ever imagined. Last year I forgot to take care of myself, threw myself into work and let my fitness go. It was a big mistake.

I wasn’t sure how to go about reclaiming my fitness; then Julia mentioned The Bloody Long Walk – a 35km walk, jog or run challenge from Yarra Bend Park to Brighton beach huts in Melbourne.

Suddenly I’d found a challenge. I adore walking outside and the best bit is the walk is raising funds to help find a cure for Mitrochondrial disease. This is something that could benefit others as well.

According to The Bloody Long Walk:

“The Australian Mitochondrial Disease Foundation (AMDF) funds essential research into the diagnosis, treatment and cure of mitochondrial disorders, and supports sufferers and their families.

AMDF also works to educate the general public and the medical profession about mitochondrial disease.

One Australian child born each week will develop a severe or life-threatening form of mitochondrial disease. There is currently no cure and few effective treatments.”

The event starts in Perth on August 16 and then moves to Brisbane, Melbourne, Adelaide and Sydney. Check out the link below for the dates in your city.

We’d love to see lots of you there supporting this great cause. So get your sneakers out and start walking!
